Excellent knife set, very sharp, comfortable grips, lots of compliments on them from friends, rated as a "best buy" in Consumer Reports.
The review: the knives are fine. The UPS guy showed up at our place with them, sans Amazon-branded box (i.e. Got them for my girlfriend for Christmas, she likes them, they are quality items. HOWEVER, be aware that if you buy this as a gift for someone you live with, either get it gift-wrapped or ship it to another location because they WILL NOT PUT IT IN A BOX. as if you pulled the knife box set off the shelf at WalMart or something) and asked her to sign for them. Suffice to say, not exactly the most surprising Christmas present ever.
I love OXO products but these knives were not up to their usual standard. They were very lightweight and almost flimsy feeling. I returned them and ended up buying Henckels which I was much happier with. OXO should stick to their kitchen gadgets and such, because they're so good at that stuff.
I bought these for my RV & they are every bit as good as my home Wustof set I paid over $500 for on sale. Don't let anyone who is selling knives try & tell you you need to spend hundreds on a good knife set. You also need to be careful with the expensive brands because they are also pumping out some cheap chinese garbage now that won't hold an edge later. As a rule the steel used needs to be from either Japan or Germany ( AXIS STEEL ). This is the only set I have ever seen with Japanese steel for this price. Really if taken care of, a set made from good steel, including this one, could last for generations. Though the sharpener would need to be replaced.
They're knives. They cut. What more could you want for this price. I've had this set for almost a year and no rust - still sharp.
